Chemical peels

Peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the face. Chemical peels work by removing different layers of the skin. Deeper peels allow damaged cells to be removed and replaced by fresher new skin during healing. There are two types of chemical peels available at ID+LC, medical chemical peels and cosmetic chemical peels.

COSMETIC CHEMICAL PEELS

Cosmetic peels remove the top layer of dead skin cells to encourage new cell development leaving the smoother texture of new skin. Cosmetic peels at ID+LC use a range of medical grade solutions only available to doctors’ practices. The peels are performed by specially trained registered nurses who will assess the appropriate concentration of solutions to apply. Cosmetic Chemical peels have little to no down time, and to optimise results a series of treatments is generally recommended.

MEDICAL CHEMICAL PEELS

Medium depth peels are generally used in patients that have so many facial sunspots (precancerous lesions) that cryotherapy becomes impractical. It also has some cosmetic advantages in that it frequently helps clear blotchy pigmentation and some fine wrinkles. These peels penetrate deeper than standard cosmetic peels, and the healing time is generally about 10 days. At ID+LC, this is an office-based procedure, carried out after injections for pain relief and sedation.
